Indian actor Ranveer Singh made his acting debut with Yash Raj Films' romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat, opposite Anushka Sharma.[1] He won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance.[2] He then appeared opposite Sharma again the company's Ladies vs Ricky Bahl ().

In , Singh received critical acclaim for playing a melancholic thief in Lootera,[3] and emerged a star with in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic drama Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, alongside Deepika Padukone.[4]

In , Singh appeared in the action film Gunday, alongside Arjun Kapoor.[5][6] He appeared in Shaad Ali's poorly reviewed Kill Dil, in the same year.

In the next year, he starred in Zoya Akhtar's ensemble comedy-drama Dil Dhadakne Do,[7] and portrayed Bajirao I in Bhansali's historical drama Bajirao Mastani.[8] It emerged as one of the highest grossing Hindi films, and won Singh th Filmfare Award for Best Actor.[9][10] After his poorly reviewed film, Befikre directed by Aditya Chopra, he starred in Bhansali's historical drama Padmaavat () as Alauddin Khalji.[11][12] In the same year, Singh appeared as a corrupt policeman in Rohit Shetty's action film Simmba.[13]

Singh received praise for Zoya Akhtar's musical drama film Gully Boy.[14] His performance as a rapper won him another Filmfare Award for Best Actor.[15][16] In , Singh portrayed Kapil Dev, in the sports film [17][18] In , Singh appeared in two films, Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Cirkus,[19] both commercial failures.[20] Singh had a commercial success in Karan Johar's romantic comedy Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in [21][22]
