Our community sadly lost a pillar on May 10th, with the demise of Mr. Rajiv K. Luthra, a prominent Indian lawyer and founder of the renowned Luthra & Luthra Law Offices.

He started his career as a chartered accountant, pursued Law and was an alumnus of University of Delhi. After setting up his firm, he opted for courses at the Harvard Law School for the period of seven years. He studied several spheres of law and it helped him in developing a niche in practicing acquisitions, mergers, finance with specialization in public private partnership and in project finance.

Under his leadership, the law firm became one of India's most prominent and respected, with offices in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.  He has taken his Firm to be one of India’s pre-eminent full-service corporate law firms, recognised as the “ No.1 law firm in the world in the realm of Project Finance by Dealogic”.

His firm initially started with a corporate practice but steadily expanded into litigation sector only because of his hard work and perseverance. 

Being a member of the Luthra clan, I have always shared a special bond with Rajiv. He was extremely socially adept and the confidence he would exude at any social event and the ease with which he made friends was incomparable.

Rajiv was a respected figure in the legal community and was widely recognised for his knowledge, integrity, and his love for the profession. His contributions to the legal profession and to society at large were widely recognised. He is the recipient of numerous accolades including "International Jurists Awards ”, “ Lifetime Achievement Award", " National Law Day Award".

He has been inducted into the M&A Hall of Fame, New York and has been honoured as a "Legend in Indian Corporate Law" and an "Ace Legal Eagle for Indian corporate law, specialising in tax, regulatory and compliance laws" at the Asian Business Leadership Forum (A.B.L.F.) Excellence Awards held in Dubai in December He was nominated in the best “ lawyers in India by the Indian Business Law Journal”,

Rajiv was a legal luminary and his expertise was sought to formulate the National Competition Policy for the 11' Five Year Plan by the Planning Commission of India.

In the field of international arbitration, in particular, Rajiv was one of the most respected and active of Indian practitioners on the international stage. He served as a Member of the Board of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre SIAC , regularly convened and addressed arbitration conferences, and was a force in the development of the law and practice of arbitration in India.

He was involved in several charitable causes and was a founding member of the Indian School of Business. I have seen him as a passionate advocate who had a goal to fight for social causes specially human rights.

He was born on March 8, , in Delhi, India. Rajiv Luthra began studying law at Delhi University at the age of 31, seven years after beginning his journey to become a chartered accountant. He then established his law firm, Luthra and Luthra Law Offices, in , after which he took a few courses at Harvard Law School over the course of seven years, studying emerging areas of law. Luthra was known for his expertise in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and competition law. He has been involved in several high-profile cases and transactions in India.

He always used to talk about the ways to improve access to justice for marginalised communities in India.

Rajiv has been a mentor and guide to the young generation of lawyers in our country and believed in imparting quality education to the budding lawyers. Rajiv 's passing is a significant loss to India's legal fraternity and business community and personally to me.

He will always be remembered for his exceptional legal expertise, commitment to excellence, and generosity towards those in need.

He is survived by his wife, two children, and a large extended family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. Rajiv's legacy will continue to inspire and influence generations to come.

He was the best and most fabulous law professional, human and a friend undeniably.
