The American Latino Media Arts Award or ALMA Award, formerly known as Latin Oscars Award, is an award highlighting the best American Latino contributions to music, television, and film.
The awards promote fair and accurate portrayals of Latinos.

History
The awards were created by UnidosUS (formerly the National Council of La Raza). The first ceremonies were held in under the name "BRAVO Awards" and broadcast on Univision.[1] In , they were televised on Fox.
The name was changed to the "American Latino Media Arts Awards" in and ABC became the network venue. However, ABC faced a boycott which forced the award ceremonies to be postponed until

After moving to Havana in the s to continue his studies, Reinaldo begins to explore his ambitions, as well as his sexuality. After receiving an honorary mention in a writing contest, Arenas is offered the chance to publish his first work. Through his work and friendships with other openly gay men, like Pepe Malas and Tomas Diego, Arenas manages to find himself. The political climate in Cuba becomes increasingly dangerous, and in the early s Arenas is arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting minors, and for publishing abroad without official consent.
